A 46-year-old Cairns North woman has been charged over a stabbing on Sheridan Street late last night.
It is alleged around 10pm the woman approached a 47-year-old woman and stabbed her in the chest with a pair of scissors before fleeing the area.
The injured woman was taken to Cairns Hospital by paramedics with a life-threatening chest wound.
The alleged attacker was located and arrested by police on Sheridan Street just after 11pm.
Investigations are continuing to determine if the women know each other.
The woman has been charged with one count of wounding.
She has been refused bail and will appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
