Seven dogs have been seized by Cairns Regional Council following an alleged attack outside the Red Beret Hotel in Redlynch. The incident happened on Sunday afternoon, when the dogs reportedly escaped from a parked vehicle and attacked a staff member in the hotel car park.

The matter was reported to Council, and after a tip‑off from the community, officers supported by Queensland Police, attended a Cairns property on Monday morning. All seven German Shepherd–type dogs were located and seized.

Council says the dogs will be held while investigations continue, stressing that the decision was made to ensure there is no ongoing risk to public safety. Officers are now working through the appropriate legal processes before determining any further action.

Council maintains a zero‑tolerance approach to serious dog‑related incidents and is reminding owners they are responsible for keeping their pets under effective control at all times. This includes secure yards, leads in public places, and preventing animals from escaping.

Anyone who witnesses or is involved in a dog attack is urged to contact Council immediately on 1300 692 247.
