Queensland has seen one of its largest-ever police crackdowns, with specialist units deployed to tackle youth crime in Cairns and Townsville. The Crisafulli Government has mobilised the State Flying Squad, Public Safety Response Team, and local officers in a targeted offensive aimed at repeat offenders and crime hotspots.

In just one week, the operation has charged more than 200 offenders across the two cities – 102 in Cairns linked to 482 offences. The surge combines high-visibility patrols with investigative and covert operations, backed by new laws and additional police resources.

According to the state government, new data shows Queensland crime is down, with break-ins down 10%, stolen vehicles down 3%, and robberies down 13% in the first seven months of 2025.
