Multiple assaults, Cairns

A 37-year-old Aurukun man was charged yesterday after reports of several alleged assaults in Cairns on Monday (November 28).

Police were called to Sheridan Street after 10:30pm following reports of alleged anti-social behaviour.

It will be alleged the 37-year-old was outside a unit block when he was approached by a 76-year-old Cairns North man, who attempted to assist him.

The 37-year-old then punched the 76-year-old in the face before becoming involved in a physical altercation with a nearby 21-year-old resident, hitting him several times.

Emergency services arrived at the scene a short time later, with the 37-year-old man transported to Cairns Hospital.

It will be further alleged as the man was being treated at hospital, he struck a 38-year-old female nurse, hitting her in the face and allegedly spat on a police officer.

The man was arrested upon release from the hospital and charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count each of serious assault person over 60 and serious assault police.
