Maternity services will stop at Cairns Private Hospital from November 1.
The announcement was made yesterday by Ramsay Health Care, with the hospital unable to recruit the obstetricians and paediatricians required to continue to safely operate the service.
Cairns Hospital is now assisting with safely transitioning maternity services for women who were planning to birth at the private hospital.
Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service Chief Executive Leena Singh says they will provide additional resources and staffing to cater for the new patients.
“We will be expanding our staffing to help us care for the women and babies that choose to come to our hospitals,” she says.
“Our dedicated clinicians and midwives will be working to seamlessly transition the care for each expectant mother to help ensure they have a positive and safe birthing experience.”
