A 24‑year‑old Manoora man has been charged after a series of alleged violent incidents in Earlville on Friday morning, including an assault on a rideshare driver and confrontations with multiple members of the public.
Police allege the man forced his way into a rideshare vehicle parked at Henley Hill Park, attempted to punch the driver several times and damaged the in‑car computer before fleeing along Mulgrave Road.
A short time later, officers say he threatened a 31‑year‑old woman and exposed himself, before attending a nearby service station where another person was allegedly assaulted. Police further allege he then attempted to break into a parked vehicle.
When officers located the man, he allegedly ignored police directions and assaulted them by kicking and pushing during the arrest.
He has been charged with nine offences, including serious assault of a person over 60, serious assault of a police officer, wilful damage, indecent act, threatening violence, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter premises and commit, and two counts of common assault.
The man was denied bail and is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on 2 March.
