Police are investigating the death of a man in Cairns after being called to a Bayview Heights home around 3am Tuesday morning.
Officers found a man with stab wounds who was pronounced deceased at the scene. A man in his 60s, believed to be known to the victim, was also treated for minor facial injuries and is currently assisting police with inquiries.
A crime scene has been established, but authorities have confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the wider community.
Detective Acting Inspector Amanda Winterburn says it is being treated as a DV incident.
“We are treating this as a domestic and family violence incident,” she said.
“For privacy reasons, I’m not able to disclose the full nature of their relationship, and the background information regarding the nature of their relationship is still forming part of our investigation.”
