Drugs found in unregistered car, police allege

A Far North Queensland man and woman are facing a raft of serious charges after police allegedly uncovered drugs in a car the pair were travelling in.

Officers say they intercepted an unregistered car on Thursday night and subsequently found cannabis and set of scales in a bag belonging to a 57-year-old Manunda woman who was a passenger in the car. 

She was transported to the Cairns watch house for a further search. Police allege they found eight bags containing methylamphetamine on the woman.

She is due appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday. 

The 42-year-old man who was driving is suspected of having a suspended licence, and as a result of a roadside breath test, he was also taken to the station. 

He has been charged with one count each of driving unregistered, driving without a driver licence, and drive whilst over the no alcohol limit but not over the general alcohol limit.

He is due in the Cairns Magistrates Court on November 30.
