Tropical Low 29U is causing havoc in Far North Queensland with major flooding on the Daintree River, tearing the Daintree Ferry from its moorings, leaving communities north of the river temporarily without their key crossing point.
Douglas Shire Council says recovery crews are standing by but cannot move in until conditions ease and it is safe to do so. Police have been notified and are monitoring the situation as severe weather continues across the Far North.
With heavy rain and fast‑rising floodwaters affecting the entire region, Council is asking residents and visitors for patience while teams respond to the rapidly changing conditions.
While the tropical low system is not expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone it is still likely to bring significant rainfall to the region.
The Bureau of Meteorology says the main impacts will come from heavy rain bands wrapped around the low, with the potential for localised flooding as it moves inland.
