There’ll be some local talent on display for Queensland when the Origin series opener kicks off in Brisbane next week.

The Cowboys Ruben Cotter, Tomy Dearden, Jeremiah Nanai and former teammate Valentine Holmes have received a call up for the maroons, with coach Billy Slater locking in his team for game one.

Slater says despite heavy injury he’s picked Queensland’s best side and is looking forward to camp on the Sunshine Coast.

“You wait until that selection time, you get all those health reports, and you pick Queensland’s best team, and that’s what we’ve felt we’ve done.

Queensland will no doubt be hungry for the shield, with coach Billy Slater also admitting the side wasn’t good enough to win last year.

Game one will be played at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday, May 28.
