Cheap wine crackdown as Cairns liquor ban curbs public intoxication

Safer suburbs and better nights for locals and visitors alike. That’s the goal behind the newly established Cairns Suburbs Liquor Accord, which will see the sale of cheap alcohol and cask wine banned before 4pm at participating bottle shops and venues.

The move comes as part of a community-wide effort to tackle alcohol-fuelled harm and rising antisocial behaviour in Cairns’ outer suburbs.

Supported by Queensland Police, the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation, and local MPs, the accord is about working together with venues, police, and community to keep Cairns welcoming, safe, and family-friendly.
