Cash register thief runs past Edmonton police station

A man has been arrested after he was allegedly caught red-handed with a stolen cash register at Edmonton.

Around 3.30pm Wednesday, the man entered a retail store on the Bruce Highway, and has allegedly grabbed the register and started to walk away while a staff member was not looking.

The 19-year-old woman has grabbed at the man but was allegedly punched in the face.

A struggle has continued, causing the man to drop the register and spill money onto the footpath before he picked it up and started running.

Police say the man ran straight past the Edmonton Police Station, with officers at the station arresting him after a short foot chase.

He was charged with one count of robbery with violence, obstruct police and wilful damage.

The 32-year-old Manoora man is expected to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on June 1.
