A Cairns man is recovering in hospital after being struck by his own car during a break-in at Whitfield.
Police say the incident happened around 4.45pm on Sunday, when an unknown offender allegedly entered a Brooks Street property and stole a white Toyota Corolla sedan.
The homeowner heard the vehicle start and tried to block the car by standing in front of it. The offender accelerated, knocking the man onto the road before running over his legs and fleeing the scene.

The victim was taken to Cairns Hospital with leg injuries, while police later located the abandoned Corolla in Kauri Street, Manoora, around 1am Monday.
Investigations are continuing, and police are appealing for anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to contact them.
