Accused armed robber charged over Cairns crime spree

A Ravenshoe man is facing 20 charges, including an armed robbery at Mount Sheridan.

The 36-year-old is accused of entering a Matoska Close home on September 29, where he and others threatened a 60-year-old woman with a knife and stole firearms from the property.

It’s further alleged the man is linked to property crime and fuel drive offs in Manunda, Woree, Edmonton, Gordonvale and Trinity Park areas, with his alleged offences dating back to December 2020.

The man was arrested at a unit complex in Fearnley Street Manunda around 2pm yesterday.

It’s alleged he was in possession of a quantity of methylamphetamines, a used needle and syringe at the time.

His charges include one count each of armed robbery in company, enter dwelling with intent, possess dangerous drug, fail to dispose of needle and syringe and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, seven counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, four counts each of stealing and disqualified driving.

Police refused bail and he is expected to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court today.
