Police in Far North Queensland have charged 59 people with nearly 250 property offences in just four days, as a region-wide crackdown on crime ramps up.

Since August 9, a total of 161 people have faced more than 700 charges, including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, break-ins, drugs and firearms.

Officers have also been supported by the Public Safety Response Team, boosting high-visibility patrols, bail checks and offender targeting.

Among those arrested was a 16-year-old White Rock boy, accused of stealing two cars from an Edge Hill property earlier this month. He’s facing charges including unlawful use of a motor vehicle and attempted burglary.

Police also arrested a 48-year-old man from South Australia after a drinking fountain and police dog memorial were vandalised at Aeroglen. He will front Cairns Magistrates Court next month.
