Queensland Police will launch a major six‑month crackdown on crime this week, with Operation Yankee Forge set to roll out simultaneously across the state and deliver a noticeable boost in policing across Cairns.
The operation begins Friday, 27 February, and is designed to reduce victimisation by targeting the offenders causing the most harm in local communities.
Residents in Far North Queensland can expect more visible patrols, more targeted investigations and a stronger focus on preventing offences such as unlawful use of motor vehicles, robberies and break‑ins.
Cairns recently topped the list for the nations highest rate of property crime according to recent data from iSelect.
According to QPS data, in Cairns there have been around 251 unlawful entries and 122 unlawful uses all reported to police since the start of January.
During Operation Yankee Forge specialist squads including the State Flying Squad, Youth Co‑Responder teams and the Public Safety Response Team will work alongside local officers to deliver coordinated disruption activities. Police say strong community awareness, combined with highly visible policing, will be key to reducing crime and improving safety across the North and Far North as the operation underway.
