A 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man were taken into custody following a dramatic incident involving a stolen vehicle between Edmonton and Cairns on October 16.
Police allege the pair were connected to an MG Z stolen from Sheridan Street the day before. The car was reportedly spotted around 2pm driving dangerously on the wrong side of Petersen Road, narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic before heading along Mulgrave Road toward the city.
After tracking by Polair, officers found the abandoned vehicle at a Mulgrave Road shopping centre just after 5pm. The teenage girl, believed to be the driver, was found hiding in the shopping centre toilets. A large hunting knife was allegedly discovered under the driver’s seat during a search.
Shortly afterward, police located the 18-year-old man at a nearby address.
Both youths face multiple charges, including unlawful use of motor vehicles and dangerous driving. The girl also faces charges related to possessing a knife in public, stealing, and driving unlicensed.
They are due to appear in Cairns courts tomorrow.
