Works have begun to tackle flooding and inundation along the western side of the Bruce Highway between Dallachy Road and south of Dean Road, in Tully.

The $18 million upgrade is part of the Bruce Highway Upgrade Program, funded by the Australian Government ($14.4 million) and the Queensland Government ($3.6 million). BMD Constructions is delivering the project, which will create more than 40 jobs.

New reinforced concrete box culverts will be installed under the highway to improve water flow during the wet season. While construction is underway, this section of the highway will remain closed, with traffic diverted onto an old section to maintain access.

Construction is expected to be completed by mid-2026, weather permitting. Authorities say the works will enhance flood resilience, road safety, and connectivity for communities in Far North Queensland.
