Pair Accused Of Stealing Car Listed For Sale

A man and woman are accused of stealing an unregistered car that had been listed for sale at Bentley Park, but they hadn't factored in the owner following them.

A 24-year-old Port Douglas woman allegedly went to a Windarra Street address at around 1:00PM on Wednesday, saying she was interested in purchasing the vehicle.

The woman asked to test drive the Ford Falcon sedan on the owner’s property, but then simply drove off down the road.

She is accused of picking up a 22-year-old man known to her.

The owner of the car followed the woman in another car and contacted police at around 2.15PM when he spotted his Car stopped at Culgoa Close in Bentley Park.

The owner informed police that the pair had run behind a nearby school.  Police located the pair and they were taken into custody.

The woman was later charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, driving a vehicle without number plates attached, failing to comply with licence conditions, failing to display Learner plates and possession of dangerous drugs.

The man was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of unlicenced driving, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving a vehicle without number plates attached.
