SPEED | Cairns Man Accused Of Stealing Bus

UPDATE | A Cairns man and woman from Charters Towers have faced court on Thursday, accused of stealing a bus and driving it around Townsville.  

Police claim Bradley Paul McNamara and Richmond Hill woman Rebecca Joy Whitehorn took the bus from a property and drove it erractically along the Bruce Highway.

Acting Detective Inspector Phil Watts said "Police intercepted the vehicle, the bus, on McArthur Drive, Annandale; when the bus came to a stop it damaged a police vehicle and two Officers were injured during the arrest process".

27-year-old McNamra was remanded in custody until his next court appearance in the Townsville Magistrates Court in January.

31-year-old Whitehorn was granted bail and will face Charters Towers Court on Monday.

EARLIER | Police have charged a man and a woman after a bus was allegedly stolen and driven dangerously through Townsville overnight.  

The bus was allegedly stolen from a property on Woodstock-Giru Road, south of Townsville, sometime after 5:00PM.

The bus was allegedly driven erratically along the Bruce Highway around 8:00PM before it was intercepted at a shopping centre on MacArthur Drive at Annandale a short time later.

A man and woman, the only occupants of the bus, refused to exit the bus.  A Police Officer was injured trying to break in.

A 27-year-old Cairns man has been charged with a total of nine offences, including enter premises with intent to commit an offence, unlawful use and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evading police, serious assault of a police officer, driving under the influence and while disqualified.

The 31-year-old Richmond Hill woman has been charged with one count each of enter premises with intent to commit an offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and serious assault of a police officer.

The pair will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on Thursday.  

EARLIER | Two people have been accused of dangerous operation of a bus in Townsville overnight. 

Around 8:00PM on Wednesday, Police received reports a bus was driving erratically on the Bruce Highway at Alligator Creek.

Police intercepted the bus at a shopping centre on MacArthur Drive, Annandale using stingers. When the bus came to a stop, it damaged a Police Car and two Officers were injured.

It will be alleged the bus had been stolen from Woodstock-Giru Road south of Townsville.

A man and woman were arrested at the scene and are assisting Police with their investigation.
