Appeal For Information Following Taxi Robbery
Detectives are appealing for information that may assist with investigations into an incident at Cairns North on Wednesday afternoon.
At around 3:00PM a man was seen entering a silver sedan stopped in a carpark on Sheridan Street north of Upward Street.
Police believe that a woman was in the driver’s seat, the silver sedan was last seen travelling north on Sheridan Street before turning left onto Grove Street.
Detectives urge the driver/owner of the sedan (featured in the images) to make contact with police.
Police are currently investigating further reported offences that may involve the man seen getting into the silver sedan.
Detectives are investigating potential links to the attempted theft of cash from a taxi near the intersection of Grove and Martyn Streets at around 2:00PM on Wednesday.
Further links are being investigated regarding the theft of a black Mitsubishi utility from a Pease Street carpark yesterday afternoon. The offender located the car keys in the rear of the vehicle that also housed the victim’s dog. The man stole the car from the carpark with the victim’s dog still in the back.
The same black utility later evaded Kuranda police who attempted to intercept the vehicle on Coondoo Street at around 12.50am. The utility was last seen heading towards the Kuranda Range and was stopped a short time later by Smithfield Police Officers on the Kuranda range.
The driver failed to comply with police requests and was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.
The dog was unharmed and safely returned to his owner.
A 47-year-old Manoora man is presently assisting detectives with their inquiries.
Police are appealing for the driver of the silver sedan on Sheridan Street who had an interaction with the man to contact police.
