Trio Charged Over Store Break In

A trio is accused of breaking into a Woree supermarket and stealing cigarettes.

They allegedly forced their way into the Toogood Road business at around 2.45AM on Monday and a quantity of cigarettes was stolen.

The trio then made their getaway in a silver coloured car.  

Investigations led Cairns Property Crime Squad and Tactical Crime Squad officers to a Draper Street address at around 10.30AM on Monday.

Two men ran off and Police gave chase, they were eventually caught in a nearby yard.

A third man was located inside the address and taken into custody.

A silver hatchback alleged to have been used in the commission of the theft was located in a nearby street and seized.

The vehicle had been stolen from a Woree residence on August 8 and had been fitted with registration plates from another vehicle.

The three men aged 19, 20 and 31 were each charged with receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, as well as breaking and entering premises and stealing.

They are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
