Women, Security Guards & Good Samaritan Assaulted In Cairns CBD
A man is accused of assaulting two women, both known to him, in the Cairns CBD on the weekend.
The 28-year-old man from Manunda was allegedly speaking to the women, aged 22 and 26, in the car park of a Marlin Parade accommodation complex at around 12.15am on Saturday.
It is claimed that he got physical with one of the women and when the other intervened he allegedly assaulted her as well.
Two hotel security officers aged 33 and 75 tried to help the women and were also allegedly assaulted.
Another 33-year-old man also saw what happened, but he too was assaulted when he tried to break it up.
The victims sustained various grazes, lacerations and soft tissue injuries as a result of the incidents.
Police arrested the man who wound up with an injury to the back of his head after falling over while assaulting one of the victims.
He was subsequently charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm before being released to obtain medical treatment for his injury.
Officers attended a Melaleuca Street address just before 11pm last night where the man was again taken into custody.
He was further charged with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count each of serious assault and committing a public nuisance offence.
The man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
