Police Operation Nets Drugs And Weapons

Quantities of cannabis, drug utensils, cash, a flick knife and a couple of stun guns have been located and seized as part of a localised drug operation this week.

Officers from the Cairns Tactical Crime Squad conducted the operation on Wednesday and Thursday.

Search warrants were executed at addresses in Manoora, Woree, Trinity Beach and Yorkeys Knob resulting in eight people aged between 20 and 48 being charged with a total of 23 drug and weapon related offences.

The charges include possession of dangerous drugs and drug utensils, possession of a Category R weapon and possession of property suspected of being used in the commission of a crime.

The eight people were issued with notices to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on various dates between July 24 and August 12.

The charges relate to individual activities and police are not alleging that the eight people were known to each other or connected in any way.

Far North District Pete Tactical Operations Inspector Pete Flori said the arrests are part of ongoing operations by the Cairns Tactical Crime Squad.
