Would Be Robber Threatens Liquor Store Worker With A 'Knife'

A Westcourt man is accused of threatening a bottle store worker with a 'knife', before later returning to spit in his face in Manunda.

Police allege the man entered a liquor store in Alfred Street at about 9.10PM on Tuesday before attempting to place a bottle of vodka down his pants.

The man was confronted by a 22-year-old store attendant before it’s alleged he threatened the man with the bottle, then placed his hand in his pocket and threatened to pull a knife.

It’s further alleged the men argued before the 36-year-old left the store yelling and screaming.

Moments later it’s alleged he returned to the store and spat in the face of the store attendant before the pair became physically involved and the 22-year-old restrained the older man on the ground until police arrived.

He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
