Some suspect property's been seized from locally based second hand goods dealers.

Operation Recover has been conducted over the past fortnight, with Property Crime Squad officers visiting second hand dealers across the Cairns area to conduct audits and ensure compliance with the relevant legislation.

The operation has seen a total of 47 charges laid and approximately $15,000 worth of property seized. Officers also issued 25 official cautions for compliance-related issues.

A Mount Sheridan business was visited on Tuesday and allegedly found to be in breach of the Second-hand Dealers and Pawnbrokers Act. Officers seized a quantity of computer gaming equipment from the premises.

A 44-year-old Cairns North man was charged with a total of 42 offences including unlicenced second-hand goods dealing and failing to keep a register, as well as 40 counts of failing to enter transaction particulars.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on August 24.
