Meteor Shower Sparks Tsunami Fears
Police have been racing around putting out 'fires', as locals dialled triple zero in a panic overnight, after a meteor shower rained down.
Many residents reported seeing the bright lights in the sky over Cairns and Yarrabah on Monday night.
Some social media users raised concerns that one landing in the sea could spark a tsunami, but Police were quick to correct that statement online.
News Corp reports one resident told police they saw a bright light hit the ocean, while another asked if a tsunami was coming because they saw it on Facebook.
Police were also called to a beach in an attempt to calm locals, while other residents gathered at a lookout.
