JUST IN | TB Scare At Cairns Hospital
Just one day after we reported that JCU researchers were working on a new vaccine for tuberculosis, with one warning it wouldn't take much for it to reach our shores, a Cairns hospital staffer's been infected.
The lab assistant's positive test result forcing around 80 co-workers to face tests themselves according to the Cairns Post.
The man had only been working there for about three months and all new employees are required to be screened for TB before they start work.
One insider told the Post, this person has come from a highrisk area and should not have started work until he was cleared.
The news comes as JCU researchers work on a new vaccine, with the current one developed around 100 years ago.
