Detectives are seeking public assistance to help identify a man who may have witnessed a stealing offence back on December 1, 2016.

At around 2.10pm on Friday December 1, a young male entered the grounds of a Lyons Street retirement village and approached a 90-year-old resident who was walking back toward the facility after doing some shopping at a nearby retail complex.

The youth snatched her purse which she was carrying on her walker, and ran off towards the DFO shopping centre complex.

It is believed that after the youth fled, the elderly victim fell as she attempted to walk the remaining distance to the facility.

She sustained a serious injury as a result of the fall.

Investigations have been ongoing, and police are appealing to members of the public to help identify a man shown in CCTV footage (pictured) who may be able to assist with inquiries.

Police believe that the man in the image raised the alarm to staff that the woman required assistance.

He was wearing a distinctive shirt that featured a Batman motif.

Anyone who knows the identity of the man in the image is also urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
