Police catch money-swap trick man
Police have charged a man in relation to a number of stealing offences throughout Queensland, including the Far North.
It will be alleged a man attended businesses, including banks, in Maryborough, Gympie, Agnes Wates, Browns Plains, Mackay, Port Douglas, and Mossman between July 4 and yesterday.
It will be alleged he approaches a teller or counter staff to exchange ten $100 notes to $50 notes.
He then asks for a different denomination of notes or confuses the staff member in some way.
While the staff member is distracted he removes some of the $100 and all the $50 notes and leaves the business.
Police stopped a vehicle north of Mareeba about 9.30am yesterday, and the officer recognised the man as wanted for questioning in relation to the above matters.
A 50-year-old Romanian National has been charged with nine counts of stealing and three counts of attempted stealing and is expected to appear at the Mareeba Magistrates Court today (July 14).
