Attempt to pervert the course of justice, Cairns
A 42-year- old Julatten man was charged yesterday following investigations into the alleged presentation of a false affidavit to a Court.
It will be alleged that the man colluded with another man to produce and tender the document to the Cairns Magistrates Court earlier this year in relation to responsibility for a drug offence.
It will be further alleged that the purpose of the action was to have the second man take responsibility for the offence, and thereby ensure that his own ability to hold a liquor licence was not jeopardised.
Detectives executed a search warrant at the man’s Mount Lewis Road property yesterday morning and allegedly located quantities of cannabis and methylamphetamine as well as a glass pipe.
He was charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice, possession of a drug utensil and two counts of possession of a dangerous drug.
The second man, a 46-year- old also from Julatten, was charged on May 5 with attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Both men are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 22.
