Andrew Symonds dies in Townsville car crash
Queensland cricketing great Andrew Symonds has died in a car crash near Townsville on Saturday night.
The single-vehicle crash happened in Hervey Range shortly before 11pm.
Police believe his car had been travelling along Hervey Range Road when it left the roadway and rolled.
Emergency services tried to revive the 46-year-old but he died of his injuries.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
Symonds played 26 Tests for Australia as an all-rounder, averaging more than 40 runs per match.
He also played 198 matches for Australia's ODI team and won the World Cup in 2003 and 2007.
Symonds' death comes just months after the tragic loss of former teammate Shane Warne and fellow cricket great Rod Marsh.
