A p-plater has been fined for speeding, after he was allegedly clocked going 135km/h in an 80km/h zone at Bentley Park.

Police pulled over the man's orange, Holden sedan on the Bruce Highway at 8.40pm on Wednesday.

Drink driving

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old White Rock man has been charged with high-range drink driving in the Cairns CBD.

Witnesses called police after reportedly seeing the man get behind the wheel yesterday afternoon.

He was pulled over for a breath test a short time later and allegedly returned a positive result.

Officers transported the 25-year-old to the Cairns Police Station where he underwent further testing and allegedly returned a blood alcohol content reading of 0.167 per cent.

Further checks revealed the man is currently disqualified from holding a driver’s licence.

Police have since charged the man with one count each of high-range drink driving and driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence.

He is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on August 4.

The man’s vehicle has also been immobilised for seven days.
