A 14-year-old Townsville boy was charged Wednesday morning after being located at Westcourt on Tuesday night.

Cairns Property Crime Squad officers were patrolling the Westcourt area at around 10.30pm when they observed two males in the vicinity of Boland Street.

The pair fled over a fence upon sighting police and were unable to be located.

A Dog Squad team attended and PD Bally was deployed to assist.

Bally led his handler through several residential and commercial properties on a 10-minute track over several hundred metres, before locating a 14-year-old boy and a 25-year-old Mount Sheridan man allegedly hiding in bushes near a Mulgrave Road fuel station.

Inquiries revealed the teenager was a person of interest in relation to several property-related and other offences allegedly committed at Ayr and Townsville.

Both were taken into custody and the teen was subsequently charged with a total of 10 offences including five counts of stealing, three counts of unlawful use of motor vehicles, and single counts of evading a cab fare, and obstructing police.

He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court.

The 25-year-old man was detained and arrested in relation to another unrelated matter as investigations continue.
