Man set to reappear in court after an alleged sexual assault
A man is set to reappear in court after an alleged sexual assault of a 22-year-old woman in Cairns.
The 31-year-old South Brisbane man had allegedly been drinking with the woman and another man before the incident occurred on Saturday night.
Police attended and spoke with the victim before locating the man a short distance away on Sheridan Street at around 12.15am.
He was taken into custody and was later charged with several offences including rape, possession of a dangerous drug, possession of a drug utensil.
Senior Constable Russ Parker said it is very unfortunate considering the woman was not in a compromising situation.
"She had simply stayed the night, did the right thing because she'd had a few drinks and decided that it would be better to stay and the this event has occurred," he said.
The man faced the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday over this offence and the other unrelated charges.
He will reappear for the rape charge on December 9.
