Assault charge, Manoora
A 20-year-old Westcourt man has been charged as part of ongoing investigations into the alleged assault of a taxi driver at Manoora last month.
It will be alleged that the driver was seated in his cab in the drive through area of a Manoora fast-food restaurant in the early hours of June 21 when a man approached and threw a drink at him through the open window.
The driver got out of his cab and asked why he had thrown the drink at him. It is alleged that a second man then approached and began to punch and kick him, knocking him to the ground.
The offenders then left in a vehicle.
The 33-year-old victim sustained bruising and lacerations as a result of the incident and was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to Cairns Hospital for further treatment.
Cairns CIB detectives attended a Westcourt address where they spoke with the 20-year-old.
He was issued with a notice to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on October 26 where he is expected to face a charge of common assault.
A 21-year-old Bentley Park man was previously charged on July 17 with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm and common assault as a result of the same incident.
