Boy Charged Over Burglary In Cairns

A 17-year-old Woree boy has been charged following a burglary incident on Thursday.

An 84-year-old man woke around 2:00 AM after hearing a noise and walked out to the lounge area of his Sandown Close home, where he saw a boy standing near the front door.

According to police the boy allegedly threatened the man with a knife and demanded money. The man refused and challenged the boy who ran away through the yard and jumped over a fence.

The man then contacted police and crews closed off the area. He was not injured as a result of the incident.

Officers located a boy nearby in Erang Street shortly after and he was taken into custody.

Several items of property located in his possession were allegedly stolen from the Sandown Close residence.

He has been charged with one count each of burglary, attempted robbery whilst armed, and possession of a drug utensil.
