Pair Charged Over Toddler's Death Granted Bail
A man and woman charged over the manslaughter of a toddler near Cairns have been granted bail.
The little boy was found deceased onboard a daycare centre mini-bus at Edmonton last Tuesday.
Michael Glenn Lewis, 45, had allegedly been driving the the bus before the tragic discovery was made.
It is alleged staff member Dionne Batrice Grills, 34, had also been onboard the bus.
The pair is also accused of fraudulently signing the boy into daycare.
Lewis and Grills were granted bail after their cases were heard in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Detective Inspector Jason Smith admitted the boy's family had been rocked by the tragedy.
"The family is suitably distressed and very upset about this...hopefully now that the matter is before the court they'll get the answers they need," he said.
