A violent robbery at Mount Sheridan has left a 66-year-old man in hospital.
Police are appealing for witnesses, after a man assaulted the victim and stole his electric bike around 10.30am Wednesday.
The incident happened on George Cannon Drive near the Mount Sheridan Plaza.
Police say the offender left the scene on the bike towards the Murgatroyd Road overpass.
A passing motorist noticed the injured man and called emergency services.
The 66-year-old was transported to Cairns Hospital with suspected broken ribs.
The offender is described as possibly Pacific Islander in appearance, approximately 18 years old, 160cm tall, shaggy hair and was wearing a black/grey t-shirt with bright logo on front and black shorts with grey stripe downside.
He was last seen riding the stolen black Merida electric mountain bike with a rear carrier and bag.
Anyone in the area who witnessed or may have captured the incident or offender on dashcam is urged to contact police.
