More than 1,400 locals are without power as the Weather Bureau issues a severe thunderstorm warning for the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands.
Ergon crews are working to restore power to 1,408 homes in Kowrowa, Kuranda, Mantaka, Myola, Oak Forest, Russett Park and Saddle Mountain.
Triple digit rainfall totals have been recorded across the region, with 157mm falling at Cairns Airport, 264mm at Saddle Mountain, 185mm at Kamerunga since 9am yesterday.
Myola has recorded 217mm, with 102mm of rain in just three hours this morning.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.
Locations which may be affected include Cairns, Yarrabah, Gordonvale and Redlynch.
