Man charged over Cairns property crime spree

A man accused of nearly 20 property crime offences across Cairns has been arrested.

The 20-year-old was allegedly involved in several break-ins and unlawful use of motor vehicles over the past three weeks.

Police will allege around 7am on March 4, a Honda CR-V was stolen from a Redlynch home, before it was was seen travelling along Martyn Street with the man identified as a passenger.

On March 6, the man was allegedly involved in a burglary at a Landsborough Drive home in Smithfield, where a Toyota Rav 4 was stolen.

The 18-year-old was yesterday charged with 18 offences including six counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, five counts of stealing, four counts of attempted enter dwelling, and one count each of enter dwelling, enter premises, and fail to take reasonable care and precaution in relation to syringe or needle.

His bail was denied, and he will appear in Cairns Magistrates Court today.
