Stinger nets back in the water to mark the start of the 2017-18 stinger season
Today marks the start of the stinger season in Far North Queensland as stinger nets are deployed on all Cairns beaches. I spoke with the Surf Lifesavers regional manager, Rob Davidson who explained why the nets are being deployed so early. Rob says that they monitor the water temperature and when it gets to a certain heat the nets go in until it cools down. Rob also wanted to reiterate that the nets weren’t impenetrable and caution is still advised when heading down to the beach to cool off.
