Misinformation or fake news?
News broke this morning that bizarrely the USS Carl Vinson had actually not been stationed off the North Korean coast but rather 4,800km further south in Indonesian waters heading to naval exercises with the Australian Navy. The original story broke last week when US Defence Secretary James Mattis was quoted saying that the Carl Vinson was on her way up there, signalling rather conclusively that the aircraft carrier was heading north not south. I spoke with Lt Gen (ret) John Grey in regards to the ruse. John believes that the carrier will still head towards Korea but was detoured to allow the Chinese more time to negotiate.
