Today I spoke to Kevin Bates, the president of the Queensland Teachers Union (QTU), about school Staff experiencing violence from parents, carers, and students. Listen below to our discussion.

Kevin Bates believes the violence is drastically under-reported, many teachers and staff have unfortunately become used to the everyday threat of violence. Teachers have dedicated their lives to a profession that in recent years has become disparaged. The acts of violence are not limited to the workplace with many perpetrators invading the sanctuary of the home. One way to stop this unacceptable behaviour is for all staff to report every threat and act of violence and not to think of it as part and parcel of the job.
