Name saving idea

Today I spoke to Fran Lindsay, a former Cairns Councillor, about the push to rename places that are now considered to be racist and offensive. Listen below to our discussion.

In recent years certain locations have come under scrutiny for the racist and offensive names they were originally given. Fran has come up with a sensible solution to the ever-increasing push to remain locations. Rather than replacing the original name with a traditional name what if the site keeps the original name and another name is added by traditional owners. This way the location can gain a traditional name and still keep the history of the first name.
