Give us a go
Today I spoke to Kevin Byrne former Mayor of Cairns and the executive manager of Enterprise North and the president of Cairns Tourism Industry Association about tourism in Far North Queensland and the sector crying out for a fair go. Listen below to our discussion.
Mr. Byrne believes that the State Government must be consistent with its messaging. Many tourism companies are barely afloat and after the Premier mentioned yesterday that Queensland's border may stay closed until September the business sector's confidence has been shattered.
The first possible date for Queensland's border to reopen was July 12th giving a ray of hope to the sector and a temporary timeline to work with. However, since the mention of September replacing the original date many businesses are losing hope and are finding it hard to see a future. Far North Queensland needs a fair go and consistency from the State Government.
