Cook Shire calls residents home

Today I spoke to Peter Scott, the mayor of the Cook Shire, about the restricted access into Cape York. Police have set up roadblocks at Mt Carbine and Chillagoe which will be manned 24 hours a day. Listen below to our discussion.

Residents are urged to return home as quickly as possible. At this point in time, all non-essential travel into Cape York and the Torres Strait are not permitted. On Sunday the state government issued a restricted access policy for the area. Residents have until 5 pm Wednesday 25th to return home. To stay up to date with the latest advice head to the Cookshire website or their Facebook page.
