Police Shoot At Car Of Suspected Arsonist

Police have fired shots at the car of a suspected arsonist who was trying to make his getaway in North Queensland on Wednesday afternoon.  

Around 3:00PM police were called to Conway Road, Palm Grove, about 30 minutes from Airlie Beach in the Whitsunday Region.

A helicopter pilot said he had seen the man lighting fires near Cedar Creek Falls.

When police located the man, he allegedly rammed the police car with his vehicle.

Both police officers fired at the man’s car and he was subsequently arrested.

The man was taken to Proserpine Hospital after he was injured during the collision.

The two officers are in hospital being treated for minor injuries also due to the collision.

A crime scene has been declared and the investigation is ongoing.

The matter is being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.
